MIKE ROACH’S SOPWITH AVIATION COMPANY

THE GROB EGRETT

This lovely aeroplane (well, I think it’s lovely) has been on my mind for a while. I even built a 72” version of it a few years ago, with limited success I have to say.

The advent of pilotless drones has probably rendered it obsolete, but in the late’80s it was the only high altitude research aircraft apart from the U-2 and the SR-71 and an hour in the air probably cost a thousandth of theirs.

The last I heard there were still some flying. I’ve ordered the balsa for mine, and the build log follows.
